Excessive wear

  • Wear is usually experienced in regions of sliding surfaces, such as bearings.  It is inevitable and usually managed through periodic replacement.  However, excessive wear can occur in instances where, for example, the bearing is starved of sufficient lubrication, or foreign material enters the interface.  Periodic oil analysis can assist in determining if there is a wear problem in a machine. Wear can lead to excessive machinery vibration, noisy machinery, or excessive heat.
